Psalm 84: pilgrimage song

January 19, 2008 at 6:06 pm. Filed under Posts.

This is one of those psalms where the NJB footnotes prove very useful. From them, we are able to see that it is a pilgrimage song used by those on the way to Jerusalem. Even more, from the reference to “early rain” in verse 6, we can ascertain that it was likely used during the […]

A lively discussion between a Christian and two Mormons

November 18, 2007 at 9:11 pm. Filed under Posts.

Although I had a couple of Mormon friends over the years, something always bothered me about their religion, and it’s this: why do they have to have a different Bible? Why do they insist that Christ visited the US when there is absolutely no Biblical proof for it? Even though their family values are great, […]

Psalm 69: glimpses of divinity among human babble

November 6, 2006 at 8:06 am. Filed under Uncategorized.

The prayer of a down and out man is recorded in this psalm. It is a lament, where the author recounts the injustices done to him because of his steadfast belief in God, and asks God for divine rescue, as well as retribution against his enemies. The NJB calls this a Messianic psalm, but I […]
